Operating since 1896, the Medical Benevolent Association of NSW (MBA NSW-ACT) is is a registered ACNC charity that provides counselling and financial assistance during crises, illness, impairment, loss of income and grief in support of:
- medical practitioners and their families
- retired doctors and their families
- families of deceased medical practitioners
- others as determined by the Council.
MBA NSW-ACT provides confidential, supportive counselling and short term financial assistance during a crisis and recovery period with view to an eventual return to independence.
Assistance is provided at short notice by experienced and confidential social workers and supported by an elected honorary group of up to 20 doctors from a wide variety of medical backgrounds.
The MBA NSW-ACT is supported predominately by tax deductible donations from doctors, but we also have successfully attracted funding from philanthropic trusts, corporate donors and secured some government and non-government grants..
