Not every person who contacts MBA NSW-ACT requires financial assistance, almost half of the doctors and family members we help have no urgent financial needs.

The Social Worker has worked with doctors for many years and is aware of the unique difficulties doctors may face, both at home and at work. Please call the Social Worker if you wish to discuss your situation and see if MBA NSW-ACT can help.

For those who do require short term financial assistance, the MBANSW, through the Social Worker, will assist to identify alternative sources of support and financial assistance.

The Social Worker will remain in contact to ensure that the family are 'weathering the storm' until the crisis is passed or independence is regained.

In many cases, referrals are made to financial counselling, legal and other professionals through our networks who also specialise in helping medical practitioners. MBA NSW-ACT is not able to provide clinical treatment, but the Social Worker may be able to help you find the treatment you need.

Are you aware of a colleague who may need our assistance? Please encourage them to contact us early and in confidence.

About one third of the doctors, family members and others that we help have no financial concerns, but seek support in other matters including family and domestic violence, grief, addiction and chronic health conditions.

Call 000 if your life is in danger

MBA NSW-ACT may be able to provide short term financial assistance to medical practitioners and their families, to support basic general living costs, whilst they are in distress and have reduced income.

All requests for assistance are made to one of the MBA NSW-ACT Social Workers.

The Social Worker will meet with you, either face to face or on the telephone, to determine whether the assistance you need is within the Council’s capacity. She will also assist you to identify other assistance that may be of use, such as financial counselling, income protection or Centrelink.

Before a request for assistance is put to the Council, the Social Worker will request you complete a form and provide relevant documentation to support your request including Bank Statements, Rent Statements and copies of current unpaid bills.

The Social Worker puts forward all requests for financial assistance to Council who consider these at the monthly Council Meeting. All deliberations of Council are strictly confidential.

It is important that you keep in touch with the Social Worker to ensure that changes in circumstances are considered by Council.

Contact the Social Workers directly via phone or email, in confidence or via our contact form.

If you are aware of a colleague who may need our assistance, please encourage them to contact us early, rather than wait for their financial situation to deteriorate.

Please ensure you read our Privacy Policy.
